Why Toba?

Let's shed light on the story behind our company name and its intriguing connection to our favourite camping, diving, and boating spot in all of Western Australia - Hamelin Bay. According to the WA Museum shipwreck database, the Toba was a fishing vessel built in Indonesia in 1907 for Clark & Co, and later brought back to its (and our) home port - Fremantle, Western Australia. On 15 December 1933, the vessel was on the way back from Albany. It ran ashore on Peak Island and sunk in 6m of water, where the remains still lie. The crew of the Toba lost everything when the vessel went down, including the fish caught over the previous two weeks, but all 4 members were rescued.

Hamelin Bay has been a much-loved destination for many Western Australians. John's family had camped there his entire childhood, a tradition we embraced and continued with our own kids. For many years we have fished, dived, swam and 4WD'd along this iconic stretch of white sand. It was only fitting to reference our love for the place by incorporating it in the name of the company and our digital marine gauges monitoring unit.
